Architecture

HACBM provided full architecture, interior design, and engineering services for the replacement of the original 1920s Borough Hall, designed after an extended evaluation of the original building and study of several alternatives. The building, situated on a prominent corner site, accommodates all municipal administrative office functions for the Mayor, Administrator and Clerk as well as the police department, municipal court and council. The architecture and materials reinforce the strength and stability of the civic functions located within. These ideas are architecturally defined by the symmetrical composition, belt course masonry articulating the floor levels, a cornice that defines the top of the wall, and flat arches with keystones.

The corridors include “nodes” that provide access to multiple departments and facilitate daily business transactions. Park-like amenities such as bicycle racks, park benches, and planters invite the public to use the building as a communal meeting place. The new building includes 3,900 sf of lower-level shell space for future expansion.
